Bulgaria is a country with millenary history. Sensational archaeological finds were unearthed on its territory in recent years - ancient sanctuaries and rock cities, dated to thousands of years BC, which may well change some parts of world history altogether.
Bulgaria is part of the family of the world's tourist destinations. The value for money of the services offered makes it one of the most attractive tourist countries in Europe - at the topnotch cafes in Sofia, which can well compare with the most famous ones in Europe.
A cup of coffee costs around 1 euro.
On a territory of 111 000 sq km Bulgaria offers a landscape that is incredibly diverse. The wide coast line, almost 380 km long is perfect for bathing and water sports, as well as for different kinds of vacations.
The mountains offer excellent skiing and mountain sports opportunities, and the rivers - all kinds of possibilities for adventure seekers.
Bulgaria is still relatively unknown to tourists, even though it is one of the oldest states in Europe, having been founded in the 7th century. The country offers hiking opportunities in pristine localities, as well as unique flora and fauna. The accommodation and traditional cuisine have been attracting in recent years more and more holidaymakers to rural tourism.
The country is one of the last places in Europe, where one can still find the brown bear and the wolf. Storks can be seen on almost all telegraph poles or church spires. The forests are abundant with wild berries, mushrooms and all kinds of medical herbs. Bulgaria is famed for its oil-yielding rose, its grapes and tobacco. Its hot springs, more than 1 600 in number, attract people from all fourquarters of the globe, who seek relief for their ailments, relaxation or who simply want to keep fit.
One advantage the Bulgarian climate has is that it is predictable, which means it allows long-term planning of one's vacation.
The country has four distinct seasons. Summer is long and hot (around 25-30C), winter is cold and snowy (temperatures stand around 0C). Spring and autumn are breathtakingly beautiful, and the moderate temperatures make them suitable for all kinds of vacation.
