Koprivshtitsa :
Huddled in the heart of Sredna Gora Mountains,
the town has played a key role in the uprising against the Ottoman empire
at the end of the 19th century. Many prominent
Bulgarians were born there. Their homes have been preserved
as museums and can be visited while taking a pleasant stroll along the
winding cobblestone alleyways.
Many of the authentic houses are now small
family hotels or restaurants. The mehana-style restaurants (taverns)
also offer traditional home-cooked dishes.
Every five years Koprivshtitsa hosts one
of the biggest folklore festivals in the Balkan
region, its next edition being in 2005.
