Hisarya: One of the favourite residences of the Roman Emperor Diocletianus was within the province of Thracia - a small town named after the ruler, a place of healing mineral springs and sweet- smelling gardens. Unlike the other Roman towns in Thracia which were mostly commercial and public centres, Diocletianopolis was a town of entertainment. It was where the Romans used to relax from their public obligations- if they had any at all- and spend most of their time in the mineral baths. Dipped in the warm water, among the aromatic oil vapours, they would talk over the Empire life. Or, in the fresh evenings, seated on the balconies of their marble residences, they would enjoy the famous Thracian wines. There were also a lot of spectacles - musical scenes, bullfights and a lot of other sports contests took place at the stage of the small amphitheatre. The very truth is that the ancient Romans possessed the skill to indulge in pleasure - in all its forms.
Nowadays that town is called Hissar and it may certainly offer you just the same kinds of entertainment... Only you have to want it.
